In Austin, Texas, Liberty senior Alejandro Perlaza Zapata claimed first-team All-America honors with his fifth-place finish in the men’s 400-meter dash Friday night in the NCAA Division I outdoor track & field national championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The Columbian native was the first Liberty finalist in the meet at the NCAA championship and posted a season-best time of 45.02.
Virginia Tech redshirt junior Peter Seufer (E.C. Glass) finished 12th in the men’s 5,000 with a time of 14:13.91. Liberty senior Azaria Kirwa finished 19th in 14:27.38.
The Liberty women’s 4x400 relay team of Tanner Ealum, Ty’Asia Dansbury, Delaney McDowell and Cortney Dowling were disqualified following its preliminary heat after a video review revealed a lane violation late Thursday night.
The quartet finished sixth in the heat with a time of 3:37.15. They became the first relay team from Liberty to compete in the national meet.
