Thanks for a great Day of Caring

On behalf of the children, families and staff at Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center, I would like to thank the United Way of Central Virginia for organizing another successful Day of Caring and the employees of Harris Corp. for working with our students on that day.

They prepared our garden beds and helped our students plant tomatoes, strawberries, blueberry bushes and flowers. The children are learning how plants grow and how they also provide us with delicious, nutritious fruits and vegetables. They will enjoy caring for the plants and harvesting and eating from the gardens all summer. The children were also fascinated by all the worms and insects they encountered while digging in the soil.

Thank you to April Cash, Indya Franas, Rebecca Frye, Jamie Hudnall, Brittany Martin and Danielle Parker, from Harris Corp., for volunteering to teach our youngest citizens to appreciate nature’s bounty.

Column a tad off-base

After reading E.J. Dionne’s May 16 column on the NRA (“The NRA is in complete and utter disarray”), I can think of only one word: hogwash.
