Thanks for community fireworks

We hope you were fortunate enough to enjoy the 24th annual fireworks celebration in the backyard of the deBernard’s home on U.S. 29 on June 22. If you didn’t see it, you missed the best fireworks show ever! It attracted thousands of folks, and all along 29, all were having fun. There were tailgate parties. Children played croquet and badminton in some areas and just had fun! Everyone enjoyed themselves just being a part of the large celebration.

There was a surprise before the show. They had planes that flew over and dipped their wings. That was exciting! What a perfect way to start an amazing show. The children, along with the adults, were spellbound.

The show started promptly at 9:30 p.m. and for 30 minutes we were amazed at the light show. The sounds were loud and it just made it more spectacular. Hardly a second went by that there weren’t multiple shells in the air. The patriotic music that accompanied the fireworks were humbling and made you even more proud to be an American.

This was Pat’s 24th annual celebration. He and his wife, Carolyn, and family and close friends help with the setting up of these shells and the shooting of the fireworks. There were 11 shooters this year. From one person to 11 shooters in 24 years! Wow! We know that hundreds of manhours went in to putting on this extravaganza.

I know we are speaking on behalf of the entire community that would like to say “thank you for letting us be a part of your celebration.” Can’t wait to see the 25th anniversary show. What more could he do to make it better? We’re not sure. But what we are sure of, he will out do himself.

Crazy times, indeed

I remember the time in years past when cuckoo birds (Cuculus canorus) were immortalized by their mechanical counterparts residing in clocks, popping out of their confines and chirping away as the clocks demanded of them.

Alas, today we have cuckoos not only duly elected to Congress, but continuously elevated to high prominence at every turn of a TV or radio channel. Cuckoo! Cuckoo! And the beat goes on, while we are blindly led by cuckoos down the path to national insanity.
