Brigitte Shroyer, 77, of Forest, Va., passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019, while traveling back to her home country, Germany. Born Tuesday, June 24, 1941 in Kassel, Germany, Brigitte was the daughter of the late Auguste Elisabeth Kopitzsch and Kraftfahrers Georg August Kopitzsch. Brigitte spent her childhood in Germany and ventured to the United States as a young woman at the age of 18. She was the loving wife of Allan F. Shroyer for 51 years. In addition to her husband, Brigitte is survived by her six children, Claudia Shroyer, James Bailey, Johnny Bailey, Steven Bailey, Freddie Bailey and Michelle Thomas; as well as seven grandchildren, Nathaniel Bailey, Abigail Bailey, Gabrielle Hansen, Leila Bailey, Hunter Thomas, Riley Thomas and Lane Bailey; as well as many great- grandchildren. We will always love and miss our grandmother, mother and wife every single day. In addition to her parents, Brigitte was preceded in death by her son, Michael and three of her four siblings, Michael Kopitzsch, Waltraud Kopitzsch, Margot Reisse and Rosemary Goulet. She is survived by her 86 year old sister, Helga Schlöffel with whom she just spent a week together with. Brigitte's greatest legacy was that of motherhood. She supported each of her children in all of their endeavors be it horse shows, football or baseball games, track and field or dance. All of her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed traveling to Michigan to see her children, grandchildren and friends and loved every opportunity she had to see her granddaughters take the stage. Brigitte had a passion for travel and cruising the world with her husband, Al. There will be a private visitation for the family from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Saturday, June 22, 2019, the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the Memorial Service from 10 to 11 a.m. A prayer service celebrating Brigitte's life will be conducted at 11 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home with Tom Bryant officiating.
