Fletcher Hubbard, Jr. of Lynchburg, Virginia, suddenly transitioned to his Heavenly home on Monday, June 10, 2019, at the Curis at Lynchburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 16, 1952, one of five children born to Elder Fletcher Hubbard Sr. and the late Jeanette Thomas Hardeman Hubbard. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Bishop Charles A. Thomas and Sallie Snead Thomas; and paternal grandparents, Goldie Bennett and Sydney Harman. Sr. Fletcher was a 1971 graduate of E.C. Glass High school and was an avid basketball and football player. He won many awards playing basketball. After graduation, he attended Virginia Union University and played basketball and football there also. Before his health failed, he was active in the College Hill area and was instrumental in obtaining the development of the College Hill Center. He appeared on several local television stations expressing community views. He had a kind spirit, was family oriented and loved his family. He will be missed by all and we will always cherish his memory. Fletcher was surrounded in life by a warm and loving blend of family and friends. He is survived by his two sons, Mark Reeves and Patrick Jones; parents, Elder Fletcher Hubbard Sr. and Savannah Hubbard; nine siblings, Arthur (Bits) Hardeman, Jerry Wayne Hubbard, Lorraine Hubbard Patterson Coleman (James) Jessie Lee Hubbard (Carol), Elder Bridgett Marie Hubbard, Rodney Hubbard, Gwendolyn L.Hubbard-Bebatt (Fadel), Courtney Hubbard, and Ashley Hubbard; one special aunt and uncle, Miriam Gaines (Bud); and a host of many aunts and uncles, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2019, at Davis-Turner Funeral Service with the Rev. Gerard Hutcherson, officiating and Dr. Carl B. Hutcherson, as Eulogist.
