A two-story Moneta structure was ruled a total loss after a blaze quickly engulfed the wood-frame house.
The fire, at 1474 Happy Acres Drive, was reported at 7:04 p.m., according to Bedford County Dispatch Supervisor Danny Brown.
Initial reports were from callers who said they saw smoke and flames coming from the residence, Brown said.
At least seven of the 12 volunteer fire companies in Bedford County and personnel from Bedford County Fire and Rescue responded to the blaze, Bedford Fire Marshal Jeff Pauley said. About 55 firefighters and more than 15 trucks worked to put out the fire, which still was smoldering four hours after the initial call, he said.
No one was in the building at the time of the blaze.
In addition to the home, which was being used as the offices of Advanced Cabling Technologies, LLC, a boat and a shed were destroyed by the fire.
Ammunition stored in the building, and gasoline in the boat’s tank exploded while firefighters battled the blaze, Pauley said.
According to Bedford County Real Estate Records, the property is owned by Darrel Musselman. The contents and structure were insured, Pauley said.
On Tuesday, the Fire Marshal’s office will assess the scene, and conduct an investigation to determine the cause.
