A 6-year-old girl died after a head-on crash Thursday in Bedford County, police said.

The crash happened at 5:40 p.m. on Hendricks Store Road, one-fifth of a mile south of Timberwood Lane, according to an email from Virginia State Police Sgt. Rick Garletts.

Garletts said a 2016 Honda CRV was traveling south when it crossed the center line and hit a 2004 Jeep Liberty.

The Honda's driver, Ashley Nicole Holdren, 34, of Moneta, was taken to the hospital with injuries. She was wearing her seatbelt.

The 6-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl were passengers. Both were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where the 6-year-old later died.

The Jeep's driver, Cheryl Lynne Smith-Clifton, 60, of Moneta, was taken to the hospital with injuries. She was wearing her seatbelt.

Charges are pending, Garletts said.
