For the first time in more than 20 years, Nelson County High School students had the opportunity to drive their tractors to school on Monday morning.

Tractors flooded the parking lot behind the Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Lovingston where students met for the start of the "Drive Your Tractor to School Day" event. Nelson County High School Future Farmers of America Vice President Sarah Harvey, estimated the last time the event was held at the high school was likely in the late 1980s, or early 1990s. Nelson County High School Future Farmers of America members decided to revive the event this year and received a police escort down U.S. 29 to the school.

"What's not cool about driving a tractor to school?" Jack Rodgers, an 11th grader at the high school, said. Upon arrival almost two dozen students helped park the 11 tractors in the grass by the tennis courts at the school for everyone to admire.

"It brings awareness to agriculture education," Harvey said.
