A portion of Campbell Avenue was down to one lane Thursday as Lynchburg employees began to clean up an oil spill. The spill occurred on Tuesday when an unknown commercial vehicle spilled the oil on the outside lane of Campbell Avenue from the Florida Avenue intersection to the on-ramp to 460, according to a news release from the city of Lynchburg. Anthony Johnson, street supervisor for the City of Lynchburg, said the city is laying down asphalt chip seal, a surface treatment made of aggregate and asphalt, to contain the oil and keep it from spreading as a permanent solution. Johnson said the hope is to reopen the lane later Thursday.
