Local colleges are preparing to open their doors to potential students as part of Virginia Private College Week, an admissions-focused event scheduled for July 23-28.

The week is hosted by the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia.

Participating colleges will offer students the opportunity to meet faculty and staff members, and to learn about the admissions process, financial aid, and academic programs offered.

Most college tours will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday with another session at 9 a.m. on Saturday. For information on how to register, see individual college websites.

A list of participating schools can be found at http://www.cicv.org/Our-Colleges/Virginia-Private-College-Week.aspx. Local participants are Liberty University, Randolph College, Sweet Briar College, and the University of Lynchburg, formerly known as Lynchburg College.

The event is open to high school juniors, seniors, and prospective transfer students.

According to the CICV website, students who visit three or more schools will have application fees waived at three schools, and be eligible for a $500 Amazon gift card drawing.
