As a result of the Aug. 2 flooding, Brookville High School’s gym floor has been completely removed. Principal Tom Cole said it took more than a week to strip the floor, and there will be moisture tests conducted on the concrete that was beneath next week. Cole said there is evidence of some rust in the sleeves in the gym floor where volleyball polls are inserted.

“We’re just waiting for it to dry out. When they get back at it, if I understood correctly, they will pull a section of bleachers out, remove and replace what’s underneath, and once they build out a little bit, they’ll shove them back and continue to come across the floor,” Cole said.

In preparation of next week’s storms from Hurricane Florence, the school placed sandbags at the back entrance of the gym where the water entered on Aug. 2 as well as at the entrance to the English and history hall of the school.

Cole said he hopes the gym floor will be replaced by the time basketball season starts.
