Nelson erupted for six runs in the fourth inning to erase a 2-1 deficit in defeating the Amherst Lancer varsity baseball team, 7-3, in a non-district battle Monday.
The Lancers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Hank Meeks single, scoring Tyler Knight, who had singled. Alex Lacombe followed with a double to give Amherst a 2-0 lead. Nelson got one run back in the third before the big fourth inning, aided by two Lancer errors and five hits during the inning.
The Lancers cut the deficit to 7-3 in the seventh inning on Christian Martin’s single, scoring Joseph Fielder but that was as close as they could get. Martin and Knight each had two hits. Lacombe, Meeks and Lucas Dickerson added one apiece.
Thomas Thompson (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound going three innings, allowing eight hits, three earned runs and striking out three. The Governors outhit Amherst 10-7.
