The Amherst junior varsity baseball team had its six-game winning streak snapped but picked up two wins this past week on the diamond.
First, the Lancers pounded Harrisonburg, 23-3. Brandon Franklin led the offense with four hits and three runs scored. Luke Mitchell and Trevor Moore both added three hits apiece. Moore added 4 RBIs. Franklin picked up the win on the mound throwing a complete game, allowing two hits, three runs, walking two and striking out five.
Next, Amherst dropped a 2-0 decision at Liberty Christian Academy. The JV squad was limited to one hit, a single by Mitchell, and struck out 15 times. Alex Mitchell suffered the loss on the mound.
Finally, the JV Lancers defeated Heritage 10-3. Franklin led the way with three hits. Dakota Maberry, Noah Cheatham and Jonah Cunningham each had two hits. Cunningham picked up the victory, throwing four innings, allowing two hits, two runs, walking two while striking out eight. Amherst, now 7-2, will host Brookville at 5 p.m. Friday, April 12.
