The Lancer varsity baseball team was eliminated from the Seminole District tournament last Friday, dropping a 17-7 loss to Liberty Christian Academy.

The fifth-seeded Lancers jumped on LCA in its first at bat. Reed Dawson led off with an infield single and advanced to second on Chris Thomason’s sacrifice bunt. After back-to-back walks to Christian Martin and Lucas Dickerson, Tyler Knight delivered a base hit to plate all three base runners.

First baseman Tyler Hargis followed with a two-run blast to center field and Amherst led the top-seeded Bulldogs 5-0. LCA grabbed the lead in the second with six runs but Martin homered in the third inning to tie the score at 6.

The Bulldogs broke open the tight game with nine runs in the fourth inning to advance to the title game.

Dawson had two of the five Lancer hits. The eighth-seeded Lancers will return to face the top-seeded Bulldogs May 23 in the opening round of the Region 4D tournament.

In the opening game of the district tournament, the Lancers rallied from a 5-2 deficit with five runs in the fifth inning to defeat Rustburg, 9-5. Martin had a big day at the plate with two home runs and five RBIs. Thomason had two hits and scored two runs to go along with picking up the win on the mound.

Thomason went five and two-third innings in relief, allowing three hits, walking one and striking out three.
