The Lancer varsity baseball team capped off the past week with a 2-1 record, improving to 5-4 on the season.
First, senior Chris Thomason pitched a complete game shutout in a 3-0 win over Harrisonburg. Thomason was brilliant in allowing only three hits, walking two and striking out 10. The Lancers scored one run in the first inning on a Christian Martin solo home run.
The score remained the same until the fifth inning, when the Lancers got a couple of insurance runs on a two-run single by Lucas Dickerson. Martin collected two of the six Lancer hits and scored two runs.
Next, Amherst traveled to square off with perennial powerhouse Liberty Christian Academy and dropped the contest, 10-0. The Bulldogs slugged four homers to aid in the win. Dickerson had the only hit for the Lancers. Timmy Byers suffered the loss on the mound.
Finally, the Lancers crushed the Heritage Pioneers, 19-1. Amherst collected 15 hits with eight different players collecting hits. Byers led the way with three hits, three runs scored and four RBIs. Dickerson was 2-for-3 with five RBIs. Joseph Fielder was 3-3 while Martin and Hank Meeks both added two hits. Thomas Thompson collected his first win of the season. Thompson pitched a complete game, allowing two hits, no earned runs and striking out eight.
Amherst will host Brookville at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 12.
