The Amherst Lancers varsity baseball team’s losing streak reached five with two district losses last week.

First, Amherst traveled to Liberty and dropped a 9-4 contest. The Minutemen broke up a 4-3 game with five runs in the sixth inning to split the season series. Christian Martin and Lucas Dickerson both had two hits on the evening and combined for three RBIs. Chris Thomason suffered the loss on the mound.

Last Friday, four Lancer seniors played their final home game. Thomason, Dickerson, Reed Dawson and Alex Lacombe finished off their home field careers taking on Liberty Christian Academy. The Bulldogs broke up a 1-0 game with six runs in the fourth inning to cruise to the 10-0 win over the Lancers. Lacombe picked up the only Lancer hit with a fifth inning single. Dickerson picked up the loss on the mound.

Amherst, now 6-11 and still in contention for a regional playoff berth, finishes off the regular season at E.C. Glass High School at 7:30 p.m. May 10. The Seminole District tournament begins on May 15 at higher seed home fields.
