Peyton Maddox

Former Lancer and Virginia Military Institute graduate Peyton Maddox is back with the Lancers as an assistant coach. 

Coming off Spring Break and heading into the final weeks of the season, the Amherst Lancers junior varsity team’s record stands at 9-2 on the season.

Amherst has won nine of its last 10 games, while coming up short in a 2-0 loss to Liberty Christian Academy. Offensively, sophomore shortstop/pitcher Brandon Franklin has led the way in hitting .559 on the season. Franklin also has knocked in 14 runs, scored 18 runs and stole 16 bases from his lead-off spot. Freshman catcher Hunter Catlett is hitting .520 while Luke Mitchell (.433) and Bryce Goodwin (.429) are having outstanding seasons at the plate. Mitchell has 14 RBIs and has scored 16 runs. Trevor Moore (12 RBIs) and Alex Mitchell (10 RBIs) have been knocking in key runs.

Pitching wise, Jonah Cunningham is 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA. Franklin and Noah Cheatham both have two wins on the season. The JV Lancer pitchers have a combined 1.97 ERA on the season.

The JV squad will host Jefferson Forest on Friday, April 26, before a rematch with Nelson on Monday, April 29, at Lancer Field. Game times are 5 p.m.
