AMH 0502 Lancer1

Lancer baseball coach John Apperson signals to the plate umpire that he wants to walk a Nelson County batter in a regular season game in late April. The Lancers finished its 2019 season at 9-14.

The Lancer varsity baseball team saw its season end with a 12-8 loss to Liberty Christian Academy in the opening round of the Region 4D tournament last Thursday.

The eight runs matched the total runs Amherst scored on the Bulldogs over the past three seasons. Amherst also collected 13 hits, including eight off Bulldog ace Christian Gordon in five innings. However, the Lancers left nine runners on base in the season-ending loss.

Brandon Franklin, Christian Martin, Joseph Fielder and Alex Lacombe each had two hits. Franklin, Martin and Fielder are sophomores for Amherst. Senior Reed Dawson, playing in his final Lancer contest, finished with three RBI’s and two runs scored. Tyler Knight drove in two runs. Senior Chris Thomason suffered the loss on the mound. Amherst finished the season with a 9–14 record.
