The Lady Lancers softball team’s bats came to life last week as the Amherst girls racked up 30 runs in two games with convincing wins over Heritage and E. C. Glass high schools.

On May 7 Amherst pounded Heritage, 17-2, in a game that included a home run from Madison Hudson, who also had a double, two hits and an RBI. Makaela Keese recorded a pair of hits and two RBIs and Jazmyne Smith batted .500 at the plate with a single and a double.

“The girls had a great offense game with 18 hits,” said Amherst coach Samantha Thacker. “The pitching staff also had a great game of allowing only four hits total and only two walks.”

Last Friday the Amherst bats were still smoking in a 13-2 win over E.C. Glass with the aid of three home runs. Hudson was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs on a single, double and home run. Mikayla Cashwell had two hits, including a home run, and Smith posted a pair of RBIs and a home run.

Maddie Jennings enjoyed a 2-for-3 hitting performance in the Seminole District victory.

“I am very proud of the way the girls hit this week. Now our goal is take this hitting into the district tournament next week,” said Thacker. “I hope that we can continue to fight and battle teams. I am excited to go into the district tournament and then regions. The girls continue to work hard every day and I am so thankful to have my team.”
