The Amherst track teams fared well as a group with the girls winning seventh place and the boys capturing the eighth spot in last Saturday’s Region 4D Championships hosted by E.C. Glass High School.

Defending state pole vault champion Kyle Mosteller continued to dominate the event as he soared over the bar at 15 feet for the regional title.

Caleb Coles posted the other first place finish for Amherst as he won the long jump with a new meet record of 23-07.00. Coles took a second place in the high jump with his effort of 6-06.00.

“It was a great career for both Kyle and Caleb. They both won numerous regionals and will be greatly missed,” said Amherst coach Lance Carter. “The twins [Kendra and Kerra Smith] had a great regional meet with personal records in almost all of their events. Kendra placed 4th in the 100 meter dash and long jump with personal records. Kerra also had personal records in both jumps and placed 4th in triple jump as well as part of the 4 x 400 relay.”
