David Lewis Mays "Jack" passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 3, 1945, in Nelson County, the son of the late Fletcher Martin and Maggie Mays. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters. Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eva; his daughter, Jennifer Wright (Sam) of Shipman; three grandchildren, Misty (Trevor), Tanner, and Aiden Wright; one great-grandson, Denver Campbell, all of Shipman; five brothers and sisters, Peggy Gilkerson (Forest) of Sterling, Margaret Bragg of Palmyra, Dorothy "Dot" Means of Schuyler, Ann Taylor of Arrington, Phyllis Pippin (J.D.) of Arrington, and Roger Mays (Sharon) of Shipman, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was an avid deer hunter and outdoorsman. Jack was a dedicated, caring and great giver to his family and friends. He was a lifelong member of Bethel Church of the Brethren and a self employed general contractor. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Bethel Church of the Brethren with Pastor Allan Monfils officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements under the direction of Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, Lovingston, Va., (434-263-4097).
