Carl A. Gardner died at home in Tye River, on May 3, 2019, at age 87, after a long illness. He was born on July 27, 1931, in Washington, D.C., where he lived most of his life. In 1978, he moved to Nelson County with his wife, Ester, and son, Coltrane, where he built his home and kept bees for many years. In the 1990's Carl returned to painting as his major occupation. He produced a large body of work, some of which will be on display during the month of June at Rockfish Valley Community Center in Afton. A reception will be held Sunday, June 9, 2019, from 3 until 6 p.m. at the Rockfish Valley Community Center auditorium. Arrangements by Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, Lovingston (434) 263-4097.
