To help college students and their families navigate the sometimes-complicated financial aid process, Sweet Briar College will host a “FAFSA Frenzy” event on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The session is free and open to the public, and participants need not be prospective students of Sweet Briar College.
Participants are encouraged to bring a number of financial documents such as social security and driver’s license numbers, W-2 form (if available), year-end pay stubs, 2012 income tax returns, untaxed income records, current bank statements and alien registration card.
The application process itself takes around 30 minutes, and students and families will be able to submit their FAFSA forms during the event.
“We help them get up and running,” said Bobbi Carpenter, director of financial aid at Sweet Briar.
While every college has a different deadline to submit financial aid forms, the priority deadline to apply to Sweet Briar College is Feb. 15. After that date, financial aid applications will be accepted but awarded on a rolling basis, Carpenter said.
In 2012, the combined merit and need-based aid awarded to Sweet Briar students was more than $11 million, with 98 percent of students receiving some form of aid, Carpenter said.
The event will be held in the computer lab in the basement of Benedict Hall at Sweet Briar.
Students and families may arrive anytime within the session hours. For more information, call (434) 381-6156 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
