Neighbors Helping Neighbors of Amherst County is sponsoring a Bridges Out of Poverty community training session on Wednesday, May 22 at Amelon United Methodist Church.
The free interactive seminar provides key lessons in dealing with individuals from poverty and is designed for employers, community organizations, churches, law enforcement, counselors, health care and social services providers and the public.
“It’s one thing to know that poverty exists in Amherst County based on the statistics. However, if we start to focus on why poverty exists, then we can start figuring out how to get people out of poverty,” said Garry Friend, president of Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a nonprofit that focuses on food outreach. “This training begins the process on knowing poverty.”
The church is located at 220 Amelon Expressway, Madison Heights. Check-in time is 8:30 to 9 a.m. Training is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
