The Nelson County youth football season kicked off last Saturday with the Nelson teams winning one out of three games played against Buffalo Gap on the NCVHS field.
The Nelson senior team (12-13 year olds) got things started in the first game by blasting Buffalo Gap, 28-0.
Nelson's Amar Tabb was a highlight reel with his three touchdown receptions.
Quarterback Zach McGann tossed a pair of scores to Tabb while Justin Colbert threw the third TD to Tabb.
The fourth score came from a McGann pass to Colton Baker who caught the ball then fell backwards into the end zone for the score.
"Our offense was on point today, especially that first half, Nelson coach BenjiMcGann." The work they have put in and belief these kids have in one another really showed today. My favorite offensive group today was our offensive line. They have really grown together and it allows us to do the many things we like to do offense. I throw a lot of things at these guys and they responded amazingly well."
The Nelson defense has a pair of bone jarring tacklers in Carson Becerra and Trey Terry.
"I can’t say enough about our defense"said McGann." They gave up 3 first downs I believe. Carson ( Becerra) sets the tone for that side of the ball. He made so many plays today. Tre Terry, Wow. He has come so far. He can play safety or defensive end and when he hits you, you stay hit."
Defenders Hank Simpson and Jamire Terry-Giles posted interceptions.
"I can’t say it enough, this is a great group of young men we are blessed to coach," said McGann." We are family."
The Junior team lost 38-6 but Zyion Rose gave the Nelson crowd something to cheer about when he ran a 90 yard touch down in the final period.
The Midgets also fell to Buffalo Gap,27-12 with Mason Tinnell running in a pair of scores.
