The Nelson middle school gym was rocking last Saturday as a tournament was held with four boys teams and four girls teams battling.

The action got started with the Nelson middle school girls taking on Liberty Christian Academy. The Bulldogs won a close match, 28-24.

Emma Craig scored 10 points for Nelson and Taylor McGann added eight.

Nelson finished in third place after defeating James River Day School, 28-22, behind McGann's 14 points and Craig's six.

The boys lost their opener to Louisa, 41-39. Tre' Terry led Nelson with 12 points followed by 11 points from Amar Tabb.

In the second round, LCA came out on top, 33-30, which gave the Mustangs a fourth-place finish.

Cam Irving scored a dozen points for Nelson as Terry contributed 11.

The Nelson 9th grade team lost both of its games.
