The outdoor track season got underway last week as Nelson opened the season at Appomattox last Wednesday and on Saturday took the short ride to Amherst.
Nelson coach Michael Chambers comments on his team’s performance from the Amherst meet:
“This week was the kickoff of our outdoor season. Overall, I have to say that I was happy with the team’s performance over the two meets. We had a good showing with multiple athletes achieving new personal best times and distances,” said Chambers.” A couple standouts were George Brown and Savannah Lawson. Brown jumped 41-1 in the triple jump, that established a new PB by more than a foot. Lawson ran a time of 2:38 in the 800m run and established a new personal best.”
At the Amherst Invitational Megan Brown was the standout athlete of this meet, earning wins in both the girls Shot Put and Discus. Lawson was able to earn a win in the girl 1600m run.
“The results of both meets have me encouraged for what this team will be able to accomplish throughout the season,” said Chambers.
