The Nelson County Parks and Recreation Department ended a full season of basketball with the championships held Sunday morning in the Nelson middle school gym.

The weeklong tournament showcased some of the outstanding basketball talent in all three age groups in the county.

A nice crowd was on hand as the first game tipped off at 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

The first group featured the Alexis Murphy Schlorship Fund team against Harris Pallets.

Cameron Murphy, brother of Alexis Murphy, was a constant battler under the basket.

Harris Pallets would win the game, 21-18.

The Harris Pallets roster featured Aydan Barbour, Aleyah Blair, Levi Edwards, Carson Faust, Austin Harris, Jordan Jackson, Dayton Rhodes, Cayden Torres and Anna Winter.

The team is coached by Colin Winter and Alfred Barbour.

The middle title game (12-14 year olds) featured Turman Tye River against Sara McGann-Mountain Area Realty.

The first half had both teams battling on defense and it also included some three pointers but in the end Turman was defeated, 42-30.

Sara McGann-Mountain Area Realty champs included Eli Bertoni, Benjamin Carroll, Zachary McGann, Myles Pannell, Stage Parker, Elan Pedro, Dagan Pugh and Travis Reed.

Coach is Justin Goins, a former standout player for the NCHS Govs.

The finale pitted the older kids, 15-18 year olds with Mountain Area Realty facing off against Lovingston Veterinary.

Both teams poured in 21 points in the first half and in the end the Mountain Area Realty won a hard fought, 45-41 victory.

Champions included Marion Brown, Max Caylor, William Layton, William Masselli, Felix Rodriguez, Sergion Rodriquez and NeQuan Vaughn.

The team’s coach was Bill Masselli.
