The Nelson varsity football team took a double loss in last week’s season finale against Appomattox.
The Raiders defeated the Governors 66-18, giving them a 4-6 record on the season, which meant they came up short of qualifying for the postseason.
Early in the first quarter last week, the Govs trailed 7-6, but Appomattox got its offense rolling and racked up 66 points before the final whistle.
Govs quarterback George Brown rushed for a pair of touchdowns, while Brice Wilson took an Appomattox kickoff 90 yards for the third score.
Nelson’s defensive stats for solo tackles included Bryson Ramsey with two, Brandon Jamerson five, Camden Mayo one, Alex Duvali five, Kavin Carter three, James Johnson three, Robert Morris three, Aveon Tabb three, Cole Kashera two, Brice Wilson three, Felix Rodriguez five, Manuel Merras two, and Sean Collins with one.
In the four wins, Nelson racked up 194 points. But in the half-dozen defeats, the defense yielded 304 points.
The Govs’ biggest win was a 51-7 thumping of Rappahannock High School, which evened the Nelson record at 2-2 at the time.
