Lady Govs head coach Vicki Crawford is returning for her 38th year running the team.

Things are starting out good for the Nelson squad as Crawford is returning a bunch as she lost only one senior from last season's team that went deep into postseason play.

“As I have told them all summer we will be as good as the amount of work you put in,” said Crawford. “The potential is there to have a very successful season.”

Crawford evaluates her roster.

Megan Seitz

Senior, four-year varsity starter. Position: outside hitter. “Megan has grown into a great volleyball player offensively and defensively,” Crawford said. “She has become a leader on this team.”

Kate Strong

Senior, four-year varsity starter. Position: setter. “Kate has worked hard to improve her defensive skills,” Crawford said.“She continues to work on her quickness getting to balls so we can utilize all our hitters.”

Ainsley McGarry

Senior, two-year varsity starter. Position: middle blocker. Crawford said “with a year experience, Ainsley has shown more force at the net blocking and hitting.”

Dominique Morrison

Senior, two-year varsity starter. Position: middle blocker. Crawford said “Dominique continues to improve her skills, becoming more confident in herself which is resulting in big plays for us.”

Mariah Butler

Senior, two-year varsity starter. Position: right side hitter. “A big blocking threat on the right side,” Crawford said of Mariah. “She reads the ball well and can defend the net. She is starting to be able to attack on offense with more efficiency which allows us to move the ball to all sides of the net.”

Staci Taylor

Senior, two-year varsity starter. Position: defensive specialist. Crawford noted “Staci continues to work on her defensive skills, improving on tracking the ball so she can make accurate passes.”

Abbey Foley

Junior, two-year varsity starter. Position: setter. “Abbey is quick to the pass and has great hands for a setter,” Crawford said. “She understands the game and positions the ball so hitters can attack.”

Lauren Armstrong

Junior, two-year varsity starter. Position: libero. Crawford said “Lauren is becoming a threat in the back row digging balls and making great defensive plays.”

Hailea White

Junior, two-year varsity starter. Position: outside hitter. “Hailea is a power outside hitter,” Crawford said. “She has worked hard to move the ball around to score. She continues to work on her defense.”

Brenna Sherwood

Junior, first year on varsity. Position: right side hitter. “Brenna is new to the varsity and has worked hard to speed up to the varsity level,” Crawford said.

Rylee Truslow

Sophomore, first year on varsity. Position: right side hitter. Crawford said “Rylee brings good blocking skills to the front line. She continues to improve her hitting.”

Kolbi McGarry

Sophomore, first-year varsity. Position: defensive specialist. “Kolbi has a good feel for the game with great reads on the ball,” Crawford said. “She is a hustler on our team.”
