The Nelson tennis team split matches last week with a 6-3 win at Appomattox and a close 4-5 loss to William Campbell on Thursday.
In the victory at Appomattox, the top two seeded singles players Destinee Glover and Karsen Mayo were defeated but the next four Nelson girls won their matches.
Number four seeded singles player for Nelson, Anna Davis won, 8-1 over Clara Campbell, Ashley Davis topped Anna Myers, 8-6, Anna Cheape rolled past Vidhi Patel, 8-1 and Victoria Saunders defeated Bella Cestaro, 8-4.
Doubles at Appomattox
Ilyana Servis and Mariska Servis (A) def. Destinee Glover and Anna Davis 8-6.
Karsen Mayo and Ashley Davis (N) def. Clara Campbell and Anna Myers 8-1.
Anna Cheape and Victoria Saunders (N) def. Vidhi Patel and Bella Cestaro 8-2.
“I was happy with the way the team performed Tuesday night,” said Nelson coach Holly Jones. “The matches we lost were very close, and the No. 3-6 seeds all had a win.”
On Thursday at Naruna against William Campbell Nelson had to settle for a 4-5 loss as thunder stopped the matches twice.
Anna Davis and Anna Cheape were the only Nelson singles winners.
Davis clipped Jennifer Sanchez, 8-5 and Cheape had no problem winning 8-3 against Bethany Narcrose.

Destinee Glover and Anna Davis (N) def. Sabrina Dickerson and Angel Newton 8-5.
Jennifer Sanchez and Adaja Adams (WC) def. Karsen Mayo and Ashley Davis 8-4.
Anna Cheape and Victoria Saunders (N) def. Bethany Norcross and Kaitlyn Morton 8-6.
Nelson will play at Altavista on Tuesday and at home against Appomattox on Thursday.
