The Nelson tennis team’s courts are being redone, which would be great news but the season is underway for Coach Holly Jones and her troops, so adjustments are needed.

First the girls have to practice in the gym and for now there are no real home games.

“Due to unsafe cracks on the tennis court that could not be easily repaired the court had to be redone, said Dee Shaver, interin athletic director at NCHS. “Hopefully the project will be finished by April 15th, which will be our first home match of the season.”

The Nelson team has played two matchres this season that were supposed to have been home games but due to the construction were moved to the opposing courts.

“Not being able to play at home has meant more travel time and has also meant that we have not had a home advantage this season,” said Jones.

The season still moves on as Jones breaks down her top six players:

» Destinee Glover: “Tough competitor who always gives 100 percent.” said Jones.

» Anna Davis: “Consistent player who does a good job of coming from behind.

» Karsen Mayo: Strong at placing low shots which are difficult for her opponents to return.

» Ashley Davis: Confident at net and has a competitive spirit.

» Victoria Saunders: Strong serve that is placed well and lands low which makes it difficulty for her opponents to return.

» Anna Cheape: First time playing tennis, but has picked up the game quickly. She has a great attitude and provides encouragement to all of her teammates.”
