Ivar Dowell has taken over the head coaching duties for the Lady Govs softball team.

Dowell comes down U.S. 29 from Charlottesville where he coached junior varsity for one season at Monticello High School. Before that, he posted three years as head JV coach at Charlottesville High School and 11 years as an assistant varsity coach.

The Lady Govs, 0-6, have given up 66 runs while scoring 14.

When asked about his goals for the team, Dowell replied, “Of course I want to win the district and the state championship as all other coaches do,” Dowell said. “The most important goal is for us to grow as a team and to be better than we were yesterday.”
