The Lady Govs soccer team is 6-5-1 overall and in Dogwood District action is 4-1 with wins agains Altavista (2 wins), Chatham, Dan River (OT) and a loss to Appomattox. Out of district Nelson played Amherst to a 2-2 tie in overtime last week in an aggressively fought game where Nelson came from behind to go into overtime.

“We have continued to work on defending as well the quality of our ball movement and possession,” said Nelson coach Bryan Ferren. “On the offensive side we are continuing to be lead by Summer Scruggs with supporting goals by Lauren Armstrong, Ella Manthey and Kate Strong.”

Lady Govs work to cut back on errors

The Lady Govs softball team has given up 30 runs and 8 errors in its last two games.The girls lost 15-6 on

May 3 to Chatham and on April 25 lost 15-0 to the Wildcats of Dan River.”We have got to cut back on errors,” said Nelson first year coach, Ivar Dowell. “We hit the ball well today but we have to find a way to push more runs across the plate.”
