The Govs soccer team has jumped out to a 3-0 record despite Nelson County High School Head Soccer Coach Silas Turner rotating his two goalies, Conner Utley and Logan Goodwin, after losing his first and second team keepers to graduation.
Turner noted both are making great progress.
“We are also letting in more goals than last year, which will be something we work on as the season progresses,” Turner said. “We have gotten off to a good start. We are returning seven starters from last year’s team that made it to the state quarterfinals. However, we have some adjustments to make to fill in for our two center midfielders that graduated last year.”
In a bright spot for the Govs, Wesley Boor is leading his team again this season with six goals.
“Wesley is a senior striker and has picked up where he left of last year. He is a dynamic scorer who can turn any opportunity into a goal,” Turner said. “He is also fully recovered from injury that plagued him last year and he has improved his finishing ability.”
The remaining Govs are: Austin Campbell, Casey Widdiefield, Clay Umbarger, David John McGrath, Ethan Oglive, George Emmit Danley, Houston Carter, Ian Atrong, Jonas Zawhorodny, Joseph Goodwin, Kelijah Grubb, Manuel Meras, Max Adams, Ramiro Chavez, Saeed Gentry, Taliesin Zawhorodny, Teddy Wood, Tucker Shannon and Tyler Widdiefield.
The Govs were scheduled to travel north to battle Madison County on March 27.
