The Govs basketball team defeated William Campbell last week, 56-49, in a Dogwood District contest.
Nelson took a slim 12-10 lead after the first quarter, but by the time intermission came around the Generals held a 24-21 advantage.
The third quarter turned the tide for Nelson as the offense unloaded 19 points while the defense held the Generals to nine.
Both sides added 16 points in the final period but the Govs were too far ahead.
Jaren Purvis led Nelson with 21 points and 18 rebounds.
Govs Coach Brian Wilson said this was a great team with with all his players stepping up.
Brice Wilson posted 4 points, four steals and two blocks before leaving the game in the third quarter with a high ankle strain, according to the team.
On Feb. 4, the Govs rolled past Chatham, 65-60, on a night when guard Brice Wilson scored his high school career 1,000th point in the fourth quarter on a foul shot.
Nelson led 17-14 after the first quarter and would still lead at the half, 34-32.
Both teams played a close third and fourth quarters with Nelson holding a narrow lead to hold holf for the district victory.
Wilson ended the game with 19 points and seven assists while Jaren Purvis added 18 and Houston Carter rounded out the Nelson double-digit scorers with 16.
