The Lady Govs soccer team recently had five players named to the Dogwood All-District First team under first-year coach Bryan Ferren.

Summer Scruggs and Kate Strong were named to the Region 2C All-Region second team, Scruggs as a forward and Strong in the midfielder position.

Ferren commented on his first team selections:

Rylee Truslow — Keeper: “Rylee had 123 saves this season and recorded three shut-outs. As a freshman she has distinguished herself in the district and kept us in many close games.”

Mhairi MacRae — Defender: “Mhairi is our defensive leader on the back line keeping us organized and transitioning to be the start of our offensive attack.”

Madison Jenney — Midfield: “Maddie moved into a holding midfielder position for us the and performed great helping managing the defensive side of the midfield. She scored two goals and had five assists.”

Kate Strong — Midfield: “Plays attacking midfield for us and was a big part of our offense with 11 goals, 14 assists.”

Summer Scruggs — Forward: “Summer is our target player up top and recorded 22 goals and seven assists.”

Four Nelson players were selected to the all-district second team: defenders Kaya Winsheimer and Delia Shepard, midfielder Ella Manthey and forward Lauren Armstrong.

Honorable mentions went to Lillanna Smith.
