Mary Louise Hudson Proffitt, 80, of Shipman, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019. Born on November 26, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Scott Edward and Sally Ann Stevens Hudson. Mary had been a seamstress for Nelson Manufacturing Co. for many years, and was also a member of Shipman Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Kenneth Michael Proffitt (Debbie) of Wingina; a daughter, Mary Lou Aldridge (Harry) of Faber; brothers, Scott Edward Hudson Jr. (Ruth) of Arrington, and Lewis Madison Hudson of Waynesboro; sisters, Frances Fitzgerald of Tyro, and Joyce Huff of Troy; three grandchildren, Ashley Staton, Stephanie Proffitt, and Leslie Proffitt; eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Edward Proffitt; a son, John Edward Proffitt Jr.; and a sister, Josephine J. Fitzgerald. A graveside funeral service was held 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2019, in Jonesboro Cemetery by Pastor Wayne Ownby. Byrum-Parr Funeral Home is serving the family, 434-277-5194.
