On an overcast and muddy morning Feb. 25, Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Roseland bid farewell to an oak tree that dates back hundreds of years. Over the course of two days, employees from Arboristry Associates Inc. worked to remove the dying tree that towered over the church and adjacent graveyard. After grinding down the stump, Ed Childress, pastor of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, said they counted 324 rings, which would date the tree back to 1696.
