Rockfish River Valley Writers Contest is open for submissions of narrative short stories, tales and poetry. Contest opened Jan. 15 and closes May 30. The contest seeks a minimum of fifty (50) email, or personal mail, contest entries.
The contest is open to any resident who lives, works, or attends school in, or has lived, worked, visited, or attended school in the Rockfish River Valley, or has participated in a writing event or workshop sponsored by the Rockfish River Valley Writers or the Creative Short Book Writers Project, regardless of age, gender, or writing category and has a writing interest that is related to, or uniquely identified, with the Rockfish River Valley of Nelson County, Virginia.
Short stories should be no less than 500 words and no more than 3,500 words. Tales should be no less than 500 words and no more than 2,500 words. Poetry should be no less than 32 lines and no more than 100 lines.
Fifteen gifts of $10 each will be awarded for “best writing entries” accepted by category for publication by the Rockfish River Valley Writers Contest judges. Three awards of $25 each will be given for “best overall entry” of a Short Story, Tale, or Poem accepted for publication by the Rockfish River Valley Writers Contest judges. The top overall winner in “Best Overall Entry” will receive: an offer “at no cost to the winner” valued at $ 350 from the Rockfish River Valley Writers to help independently publish a book of the author’s work with an illustrated color soft-cover, introduction page, title/legal page, ISBN number, and back page bio.
Winning entries will be published in a book by the Rockfish River Valley Writers titled: Selected Writings from the Rockfish River Valley, edited by Wayne Drumheller, contest judge and sponsor. Winners and finalists will be contacted by phone, text or email per entry information provided. All contest participants will be invited to read their entries at a awards event. Winners and finalists will be announced at an awards reception in the writers’ café at the Rockfish Valley Community Center.
