Local businesses all over Nelson County will celebrate 50 years of love in Virginia starting in August.

According to a news release from Nelson County Tourism, the county will participate in the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) “50 Years of Love” grant fund.

“‘50 Years of Love’ is part of VTC’s efforts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ‘Virginia is for Lovers’ tourism slogan, which was created in 1969 by Richmond-based advertising agency Martin & Woltz,” the release said.

Twelve different businesses in Nelson County are partnering with Nelson County Tourism to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the slogan. Partners include the new Nelson 29 Craft Beverage Trail, Nelson 151, the Brew Ridge Trail, Afton Mountain Vineyards, Blue Mountain Brewery, Bold Rock Cidery, Devils Backbone Brewing Company, Drumheller’s Orchard, Lockn’ Festival, Saunders Brothers Farm Market, Veritas Vineyard and Winery, Virginia Distillery Company and Wild Wolf Brewing Company.

The 50 Days of Love commemoration begins with the Lockn’ Festival August 22 through the 25 with a ‘Name your ___ Years of Love’ contest at the festival and ends with Bold Rock Cidery’s Fall Festival on Oct. 26. At each event during the 50 Days, Other promotional events include Wild Wolf’s “50 Beers for 50 Years” and the Celebrate Autumn Festival at Saunders Brothers and Drumheller’s Apple Harvest Festival, both of which will be dedicated to the 50 years of Love.
