Tye River and Rockfish River elementary school students, faculty, and staff welcomed two new School Resource Officers this week after coming back from spring break.

According to a news release from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Department, as of April 8, Tye River and Rockfish River will have two new School Resource Officers, SROs, to provide for the safety and security of students and faculty.

Deputy John Grieser will staff Tye River and Deputy Rebecca Ullrich will be at Rockfish River, joining SRO Zach Barnett in providing additional security at the schools. Barnett, who is currently working in the middle and high school, had been traveling to the other schools as needed.

“This initiative would not have been possible without the foresight and support of the Nelson County Board of Supervisors and the backing of our citizens,” the release said. “While their primary mission will be safety and security, Sheriff Hill is seeking to cultivate positive relationships with the students and ultimately benefit the Nelson County community as a whole.”
