Finalists in the Rockfish River Valley Writer’s Contest will read their work at an awards ceremony June 27.

The ceremony will be held at the Rockfish River Valley Community Center, 190 Rockfish School Lane. It will begin with a reception with light refreshments at 2:30 p.m. followed by finalists readings at 3 p.m. and awards at 4:15 p.m.

All finalists receive $10 for entries accepted for publication in the book “Selected Writings From The 2019 Rockfish River Valley Writers Contest.” The winners of the short story, tale/essay and poem categories each will receive $25. The writer of the best overall entry receives an offer to have their work published.

Short story finalists include: Bill Frank Plyler II of Afton; Edward Eddie Drumheller of Nellysford; Alice Faintick of Crozet; Railton Cabbell of North Garden; Rebecca Barnabi of Waynesboro; Dara Parker Powers of Staunton; William “Bill” O Tucker, Jr. of Lynchburg; and Coleman Jones of Charlottesville.

Tales and essay finalists include: Bill Plyler II; Kevin Blackford of Staunton; Gerry Kruger or Charlottesville; Phel K. Jacobsen of Luray; Gay Tucker of Lynchburg; Coleman Jones; Marta Anne Tice of Nellysford; Abby Kimbrough of Charlottesville; and John J. Tani of Nellysford.

Poetry finalists include: Jennifer Martin of Afton; Dabney Farmer of Crozet; Susan McSwain of Lovingston; DeLina Louise Chabot of Faber; Sandy Clark of Arrington; Railton Cabbell; Dara Powers Parker; Kate Rutherford of Afton; and Coleman Jones.
