The Appomattox 1865 Foundation, a nonprofit friends group raising funds for repairs and projects for Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, is hosting “Literature in the Park” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the park.
Local authors like Chris Calkins (pictured), park manager at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park in Rice, and Patrick Schroeder, Appomattox Courthouse NHP's historian, will speak about Civil War era history. Other activities include a children's story time, living history reenactments and an interactive Civil War era letter writing station where visitors can read letters written during the war, practice writing in Spencerian script with period pens and page through some of the era's popular novels.
