The Charlottesville Police Department is investigating a threat made against Charlottesville High School. In an email Wednesday night, the division said all schools will be closed Thursday, adding that "the safety of our staff and students is our first priority."

Police received two emails on Wednesday about a possible threat for Thursday, according to a news release. The release said an unidentified subject posted an image online with a threat toward the school.

The credibility of the threat had not been determined by CPD, the school division, Virginia State Police and the FBI as of Wednesday night.

Anyone with information is asked to contact city police at (434) 970-3280 or CrimeStoppers at (434) 977-4000.

Another update on the situation is planned for Thursday.

Wednesday’s email was the second allegation of a threat against an area school this week.

On Tuesday, a Walton Middle School student was not at school after an accusation that the student threatened a school shooting via text message. The student involved had made threats previously that there were found not credible.

After the text message was reported, the investigation was reopened. Officials said the school is not considered to be at risk.
