Master Wayne Adams held his grand opening for Adams Total Fitness on Seymour Drive in South Boston. Adams has been the owner and operator of a karate school in Halifax for 20 years and teaches the arts of Okinawan Kempo and Torite Jutsu, has a sixth degree black belt and over 25 years of experience as well as certifications in fitness and nutrition.
It’s always been a dream of Adams to combine the karate school and a fitness center.
“Today is very exciting,” he said Saturday prior to the ribbon cutting.
The new gym will offer cardio including boot camps, kickboxing, karate, zumba and the fitness center. It’s open Monday through Thursday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and tentatively closed on Sunday.
According to Adams, the new fitness center offers a varied price list and packages for each individual. A single one-year gym membership is $50 joining fee and $45 a month. Adams also offers group rates for companies.
The journey to Saturday was a long road, according to his wife, Dawn.
It began about 10 years ago when the couple started the search for the perfect building. However, recently things just began to fall into place, and the family couldn’t be more excited.
“It’s almost overwhelming. It took a lot of hard work, but he’s very determined,” said Dawn.
Employees, family and supporters of Adams came out Saturday morning in support of the grand opening and took a tour of the gym.
Adams and his wife reside in South Boston and have four children between the two of them, Seth, Austin, Brooke and Tyler.
“I look forward for the gym being successful and bettering the people and their physical well being,” Adams concluded.
