It was evident in his 26-pitch first inning that Mauricio Cabrera did not have command of the strike zone. That has been the biggest knock on the 20-year-old right-hander. When his fastball command is erratic, he labors through innings and his pitch count quickly rises.
The Hillcats have taken extra precaution with his development, including skipping a scheduled start earlier in the week. The extra rest didn’t seem to help his command early on and he was lifted after three innings. Things spiraled out of control quickly for the Hillcats as Potomac scored three times in the fourth and four more times in the eighth to claim a 10-4 victory Saturday night at City Stadium.
