Charles "Charlie" Howard Simpson Mr. Charles "Charlie" Howard Simpson, 90, of Tunstall High Road, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at his residence after a decline in health for the past twelve months. Mr. Simpson was born on November 11, 1923, in Dobson, N.C., a son of the late Dewey Simpson and the late Molly Goins Simpson. He spent most of his life in Pittsylvania County where he worked as a pipe fitter for United Association Local 0 10. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Alabama during World War II. He loved cattle farming and enjoyed the outdoors. He was the last survivor of his generation. Mr. Simpson was married to the late Margaret Hutchinson Simpson who died on December 1, 2006. Survivors include, one daughter, Sandra Taylor Soyars (Randy) of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren, Chris Simpson, Charles Simpson, James Simpson, Jon Bryant, Darrell Soyars, and Mark Soyars; and eighteen great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents Mr. Simpson was predeceased by one son, Charles Michael Simpson. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013, at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Daryl Joyce officiating. Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 1 until 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Danville Humane Society at P.O. Box 3352, Danville, VA 24543 or St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Simpson family.
