What would life be without books, the variety of which enlightens the lives of those who pick them up and spend time turning the pages inside their covers? It’s unimaginable.

Yet, inmates in state and federal prisons in six states, including Virginia, had no access to books until 2006. That was when a group of West Virginia University students and faculty members founded the Appalachian Prison Book Project.
