  • Gilbert, Jamisha

Jamisha Monique Gilbert On Friday, November 29, 2013, God sent His angels to pick up our beautiful daughter, Jamisha Monique Gilbert, to become one of His angels. She was born March 29, 1995, to her loving parents, Norma Gilbert-Eldridge and Reginald Poindexter. Jamisha was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Jasmine Gilbert; a brother, Jeffrey Gilbert; an uncle, Lewis Jerome Gilbert; and a great aunt, Mabell Price. Jamisha was a graduate of Heritage High School. She graduated with greater than a 4.0 GPA. From kindergarten to high school Jamisha excelled in each of her subjects. Her goal was to begin her college journey at CVCC this spring for two years and then relocate to Maryland to attend the University of Maryland to pursue her dreams of becoming a Corporate Lawyer. She was very opinionated and set her goals high. Jamisha loved playing the piano, Alicia Keys, "I keep falling in and out of love", was one of her favorite tunes she played. Jamisha was a diehard Washington Redskins fan; whether they won or lost she stayed loyal to them. Jamisha was a commandment keeper which included keeping the Sabbath Day on Saturday. She was baptized by her stepfather, Cornell Eldridge, who helped raise her in Landover, Maryland. In addition to her parents she leaves to cherish her memories, her loving brothers, Javonte Gilbert, Jawuan and Judae Gilbert-Eldridge; loving grandparents, Louis Gilbert (Margaret) of Redhouse, VA, Margaret Ree Gilbert of Florida, and Tamara Moore (Clinton) of Woodbridge, VA; loving aunts, Barbara Washington of Appomattox, VA, Iris Gilbert-Curtis (Ronald) of Upper Marlboro, MD and Joyce Nabinett of Washington, DC; uncles, Donny Poindexter, and Clinton Moore Jr. of Woodbridge, VA; a niece, Sharae Imani Callander of Brooklyn, NY; a devoted cousin, Rochelle of Washington, DC; a good friend, Diamond Blake; and Diamond's nephew who Jamisha treated like her own nephew, Naszel Smith; two devoted ladies that were like aunts to Jamisha, Courtney Scott of Lynchburg, and Celestine Worthy of Greensboro, NC; a dedicated counselor from Heritage High School, Ms. Beckles; and a host of other relatives and friends. Jamisha will be missed greatly and loved always. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Court Street Baptist Church. Interment will be in Maryland at a later date. The family is receiving friends from 7 until 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Community Funeral Home and other times at 1101 Fillmore St. Family and friends will assemble at the church.
